Frequently asked questions

Does SIPSorcery offer calls to or from the PSTN — termination, origination, numbers or DIDs in any country?
No. SIPSorcery provides no Public Switched Telephone Network services of any kind. You bring your own provider accounts; SIPSorcery manages the SIP side of them.
Does SIPSorcery affect the quality of my calls?
No. The servers handle signalling and never sit in the media path, so audio flows directly between the endpoints. There is no mechanism by which the service could degrade it.
Does SIPSorcery work with Google Voice?
No.
Where is my SIP account password stored, and can I get it back?
Encrypted, and yes. Digest authentication requires the server to hold something equivalent to your password, so storing only a hash is not an option the protocol allows. What is stored instead is AES-256-GCM ciphertext, under a key the SIP servers deliberately do not hold, plus the derived digest they authenticate against. The portal can show you the password when a handset needs reconfiguring; a stolen database backup cannot.
Why can't I choose my own SIP account password?
Because the digest is MD5, which is fast. A password you chose sitting behind it would be a dictionary attack rather than a cryptographic one. A generated 22 character password is neither — and it is not one you have reused anywhere else.
My device registers but calls do not arrive. Where do I look?
Current registrations on the SIP Accounts page. It shows where the registrar will actually send requests, which is not always the contact address your device supplied — behind NAT it gets rewritten, and rows where that happened are marked.
How do I sign in?
With the same user name and password you used on the previous SIPSorcery site. Accounts were carried across as they were, so there is nothing to register or reset.
